Story of Corrie Karnan

Background

Corrie Karnan is a Colorado native, raised in the Denver area and loves the great outdoors. She’s an active woman, skiing, and hiking, who sees a story in the world around her. Reading is a big part of her life. For Corrie, books, stories, and teaching children all come together and led her on the course of writing children’s stories.

Secrets of The Fairy Cave

One can easily see this path when reading Corrie’s first published book, Secrets of The Fairy Cave. The setting for the story, developed from her time while working at the Glenwood Adventure Park as a tour guide for the historic “Fairy Cave and Barn Cave.” She pulls the reader into the cave and allows the reader to experience the events of the stories the guides told. But she doesn’t stop with the adventure; in reading the book one learns about cave history and geological formations within the caves.

Secrets of The Silver Nugget

Corrie became inspired to write her second book, Secrets of The Silver Nugget. The story grew out of many conversations she had with some special people. She heard their personal stories and knowledge of mining. These extraordinary people were born and raised in the Aspen area. Their ancestors were some of the hard-working people who lived in the 1800’s. Corrie’s years with the Aspen Skiing Company teaching skiing added more to the story. She has skied and taught ample times on Aspen Mountain. The ski trails are named after numerous mines and a town once located within the ski area boundaries. In her book she not only provided an adventure. The reader learns about history of mining during the time silver was king to the beginning of skiing on Aspen Mountain.

Wee Chee Chee

Corrie and her sister, co-edited and published their Great-Aunt Mary’s book, Wee Chee Chee. They found the typewritten pages and artwork, stored away in a box within the family home. This work was to honor their Great-Aunt and their father who created the original artwork.

New Projects

A third book is underway. Corrie became inspired years ago when the town of Snowmass water district began excavation for the village water. Unexpectedly an ancient tusk and bones of Mastodons, Wooly Mammoths, Giant Ground Sloths, and Giant Bison were pulled out of the muddy earth in the Snowmass dig. The reader will take an adventure and learn more about the Ice Age World.
